After being selected as one of five micro-mobility service providers by the RTA, Berlin-based TIER is to operate an e-scooter rental service in Dubai.
The initial TIER e-scooter fleet is based at various locations across Dubai, including Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) and Downtown Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, with other locations expected in the future.
In preparation for the trial run on Monday, October 26, HE Mattar Al Tayer, reviews in the presence of HE Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, e-scooters models at Mohammed bin Rashid Blvd and Jumeirah Lake Towers.@DubaiPoliceHQ#RTA#Dubaipic.twitter.com/C3udACjhHj
TIER’s scooters use on-site swappable batteries, negating the need to ship scooters to warehouses for charging every day.
Via the TIER mobile app, you can access electric scooters. Riders have the option to use ‘pay-as-you-go’ or opt for a subscription model at a rate of Dhs1 per minute of use. It is possible to make payments through PayPal or through debit and credit cards.
Riders book their trip on the TIER app through a QR code mechanism. The renting and parking of scooters is carried out through a virtual system of parking.
For greater rider safety, TIER’s electric scooters feature a large front wheel, a small foot plate, dual suspension, a double kick-stand and dual drum brakes. The business says that during Covid-19 it carried out regular disinfection of its fleet.
In offering last-mile connectivity in Dubai, TIER joins Arnab Skurrt, Careem and Lime, connecting public transport hubs with people’s homes, offices and retail outlets.
