Wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other. The purpose of these alignments is to maximize the tires life, fuel efficiency and ensure that the vehicle tracks straight and true when driving along a straight and level road.

Some of the symptoms of a vehicle that is out of alignment are,

  • Uneven or rapid tire wear
  • Wandering on a straight level road
  • Pulling or drifting away from a straight line
  • Spokes of the steering wheel off to one side while driving on a straight and level road.

Wheels of a car with loose or worn front end suspension parts cannot be aligned. The technician will first check for worn parts and inform you before beginning the alignment.

The best type of wheel alignment is a four wheel alignment. Many cars today have adjustable rear alignment settings, but even for cars without rear adjustments, a four wheel alignment can allow the technician to identify any rear tracking problems and compensate for them with adjustments to the front.

After the wheel alignment is done, you should drive the car on a straight and level road and check that the car goes straight the steering wheel is in the proper position with the spokes level. If you notice a problem, take the car back and have the technician drive it and fine-tune the alignment settings.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Which is the nearest installer to me?”]

The best way to locate the nearest installer to you is by going to the ‘Fitting and Installation’ page.

Once on the ‘Fitting and Installation’ page, just type in your location and hit the ‘Submit’ button. This will display the results sorted by distance.  You can sort the results by Name or Customer ratings as well.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What is wheel balancing and why is it required?”]Wheel Balancing allows the tires and wheels to spin without causing any vibrations.  This is done by checking for any heavy spots on the wheel-tire combination and compensating for it by placing a measured lead weight on the opposite site of the wheel from where the heavy spot is.  Out-of-balance tires will cause a car to vibrate at certain speeds, usually between 80 and 120 km/h.  An off balance wheel shows the following symptoms,

  • Vibration in the steering wheel at certain highway speeds
  • Vibration in the seat or floorboard at certain highway speeds

Even a 10 or 20 grams imbalance on a front wheel is enough to cause a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel at about 100Km/h.  Many people are pleasantly surprised at how smooth their car drives after balancing all four wheels.  Sometimes when you hit a pothole while driving, the lead weight affixed to the wheel falls off, which will result in an unbalanced wheel.[/vc_toggle][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_custom_heading text=”Date of manufacture of Tyres” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_toggle title=”How to read the date of production (DOT) of a tyre?”]Since tires can sit in a warehouse unsold for a long time, you should know when the tires were manufactured, rather than purchased.

Every tire has a date stamped into the sidewall. Near the edge of the rim, you should look for a long serial number starting with the letters “DOT.”

The code will end in four numerals and corresponds to the two-digit week followed by the two-digit year. For instance, the tire seen below has code of DOT H2LF YA9J 3507, which would indicate a tire manufactured in the 35th week of 2007.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What is the date of production (DOT) for the tyres Star Wheeler offers? “]

Date of manufacture of each tire is clearly displayed on our website.  We only capture the Year and not the week as every unit may have a different week, which keeps changing all the time as we receive fresh inventory.

Star Wheeler makes a lot of effort to ensure the highest quality of the products our vendors sell.

All the tires that they offer are brand new, and their age is never higher than maximum of 24 months.

This is in compliance with Gulf Standards Organization regulations. Because of our volumes and rotation of inventory, 99% of the tires we sell have a production date not older than 6 to 9 months.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”What should be the acceptable date of production (DOT) for the tires I buy?”]

Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, ESMA’s regulation clearly state that tires with a date of production of more than 5 years, cannot be used in the UAE.  Additional, for motor cars, any tire with a date of manufacture older than 2 years cannot be resold to a customer.

As long as the tires you buy are from a legitimate source and have been stored properly, buying a tire which was manufactured less than 2 years ago, is not a problem.

If you put 30-40,000 kms on your car every year, a 2 year old DOT tire would provide you full service before the usage limit of 5 year stipulated by ESMA.

As as long as you are able to consume the tire within the 5 years from the date of production, you are okay to buy a tire with any date of manufacture, as long as the DOT is within 2 years.
