The resumption of the service is conditional on the compliance of the companies with the health and safety protocols against the spread of the coronavirus.
Starting on Monday, October 11, 2020, companies operating electric scooters (e-scooters) rental services in Abu Dhabi will gradually resume the service.
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport has reported that it is possible for operators to resume services with a capacity of 25% in specific districts of the city, namely Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island, Al Zahia, Al Dana, Al Bateen, Corniche and Marina.
The ITC has called on e-scooter operators and users to adhere to preventive health and safety policies at all times to protect public health. It emphasized that the use of electric scooters was restricted to approved areas and warned against driving on roads intended for vehicles. The inspection teams of the ITC will carry out field tours in order to ensure compliance with the measures in place and take necessary legal action against violators.
Meanwhile, the ITC states that robust sterilization programmes continue to ensure the highest levels of public health and safety in this sector for all public transport systems and facilities. Such projects are a top priority in the ITC ‘s efforts with public and private sector strategic partners. The overall goal of these projects is to restore all public transit systems back to normal and, at all times, to safeguard the health and safety of passengers.
The ITC stressed that the use of e-scooters should be limited to the permitted areas and warned against riding them on roads. To ensure compliance with the relevant measures, inspection teams will perform field tours.
